Therapy
(** Please note that this modality has many facets one could dive into for a considerable amount of time. For the sake of brevity, I have only provided the essence of this therapy below for your general understanding. **)

In the womb, we all start off as a stack of embyonic pancakes which fold up on the sides to create an opening, a space, called the neural tube. This will evolve to become the brain and spinal cord a.k.a our central nervous system. All of our nerves will branch out from the spinal cord allowing us to sense and feel both the outside environment and our internal sensations. This is how we know a pan is hot, our stomach hurts and that we really enjoy being cuddled by a soft, warm blanket. So the first thing to really "form" in our bodies is our center, and these central structures are what allow us to relate to the world and ourselves! In a time when our attention feels like it's constantly being pulled in every direction it's easy to lose connection with our sense of self and where we belong. Since our nervous system is in charge of how we sense the outside world and ourselves, it can cause us to feel tired, confused, afraid, and disconnected when it is less regulated.

So regulating our nervous system can actually allow us to feel more connected to ourselves, our friends and family and feel a sense of belonging. Likewise, other parts of our bodies that are tight, restricted or not functioning optimally can cause us to feel pain, fatigue or discomfort not just physically but also mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
Here is where Craniosacral Therapy comes in! It is a gentle-hands on modality that invites more spaciousness and ease into the body, mind and spirit by listening deeply to the subtle, palpable rhythms of the body in order to release any restrictions and support your body's innate ability to heal itself. When you breathe in your heart rate goes up, your chest expands and when you breathe out your heart rate goes down, your chest contracts. Life is motion, and the health of your body directly correlates to how easily these rhythms are able to move through you.
Craniosacral Therapy primarily focuses on sensing into the primary respiratory mechanism in order to assess and restore health in the body. The primary respiratory mechanism includes the rhythms of the cranial bones and sacrum, reciprocal tension membranes, central nervous system (brain and spinal cord), and cerebrospinal fluid (C.S.F). Each of these components have their own unique rhythm and also function together as a unified system.

What will I feel?
Every session varies from person to person and session to session. Some people feel sensations of warmth, relaxation, and spaciousness. Some see colors and images, while others fall asleep or drift somewhere in between. Various kinds of release may arise in the form of crying, laughing, muscle twitching and unwinding.
Nervous System Regulation / Trauma Integration
Since I am also a Somatic Practitioner, I use a lot of interventions to help you ease into presence and stillness that originate from my training through Organic Intelligence®. This may include guided body scans, verbal reflections/inquiry and other somatic exercises.
